Bad news, my friends:
The Punkin House, Seattle's longest surviving all-ages DIY show space/community
punk house has been sold and is no longer within our loving grasp.
The Punkin House started having shows in 1999 with Milemarker + Yaphet Kotto,
and has hosted hundreds of bands and performers, and has also been a place for
the community to eat, meet, and share skills. For the entire duration of our
existence we've been committed to creating a sustainable and positive culture
for our peers to express themselves through a variety of mediums in a
non-heirarchial space, and through much of that time we've been successful in
this attempt. We've also made an attempt to be a safe space for all people, and
have held strong convictions towards being pro-queer, anti-racist,
anti-adultist/ageist, and pro-feminist.
It's been decided that the only suitable tribute to the end of the Punkin House would to be for us to make a zine telling stories from the many eras that existed here. Good times, bad times, intense times, nice times, etc. So we made the zine, and gave out copies at our final show. We still have a few more copies, and will print up more in the future. The PH was really important to a lot of people, so we're definitely going to try to keep the memories alive and share our history with anyone who's interested.
Also, be sure to check back in the future for more contributions and photos, old articles, show flyers, etc that we weren't able to include in the zine.
Thanks so much everybody! We look forward to starting new project in the future that will hopefully be just as successful, if not more, than the Punkin House has been. Onward!
