SeattleDIY is a collective whose mission is to promote and support the DIY ethos and its associated growing community in Seattle. Our goal is to help this large and nebulous group of people stay informed about what the community is doing, hopefully leading to greater communication, participation, and collaboration.
Our Values:
We believe in being the creators of culture rather than consumers. We believe in promoting a just society that supports itself through mutual aid and without hierarchies. We believe in fighting against institutionalized oppression (racism, sexism, ageism/adultism, and homophobia), and we support environmental justice, animal rights, egalitarianism, and human rights.
We meet weekly to discuss what we can do to address the needs of the community and work on projects, and we’re always looking for new members and new ideas. If you’d like to see what we’ve been up to, visit our blog at http://www.seattlediycollective.blogspot.com/
All SeattleDIY meetings are open to everyone! Check the calendar for information about the next meeting.

Hello, I am an intern with Reel Grrls, a local non-profit organization that empowers young women through teaching filmmaking and media literacy. The staff and mentors of Reel Grrls are competing in the Hot Docs International Documentary Challenge where we create a documentary in 5 days. We may be interested in doing this documentary on the Seattle DIY scene, and I was wondering if there was someone from the SeattleDIY Collective who would be willing to be interviewed by us. We will be making the documentary this weekend, so I apologize for the late notice. However, we are still unsure if DIY will be the topic because it is dependent on the theme of the Doc Challenge, which we will hear on Thursday (3/5). At this point, I am wondering if you would be interested in some kind of participation. Thank you,
Hey Seattle!
Thanks for having me at the bookfair. To make it up to you I’d like to have you in Olympia for GenderJam: LAD.I.Y. & TRANS FEST 2009! Oh yeah, shit’s getting real.
Come facilitate a workshop, perform, volunteer or just kick it.
